Everything you need to know to make awesome string art the easiest way possible with little to no cost to your wallet.
Wood!
The first thing you'll be needing is wood. Incase you are out of wood I have found some good options at different shapes and sizes which you can find in the links below. You also don't need to use wood for your string art background, you can make string art on cardboard or a pinboard. An example of this is on our youtube, where we use a cardboard base for the ice-cream string art. Some of these are best for things like Christmas ornaments while others are good for big string art projects!

Tools!
One tool is a necessity, that is a hammer. You'll need a hammer so that you can wack in either pins or nails into your wood. If you don't have a hammer look at some options below.
https://amzn.to/34w8syb A set of two hammers, one small and one normal sized at a great deal price.
https://amzn.to/30FTogC A great hammer to get things done.
A not so necesary tool is pliers. Although pliers are completely optional I'd reconmend them to absolutely everyone. In string art there are some places that thumbly thumbs just can't reach. They are also great for saving those thumbs and fingers from on-coming swings from the new shiny hammer. If you don't have pliers I would reconmend them and you can find a good pair at the links below.
https://amzn.to/3d3MQNu A great pack a pliers (many different sizes) at an even better price.
https://amzn.to/3d7wSCk A single set a pliers that will be great to reach those tricky gaps.
Tape
Tape is a must have when doing string art. It is used to stick down templates and hold everything in place while you're hammering away. Masking tape is the best tape to use as it won't damage your wood at all, depending on your type of wood and if you stained or painted it, you can use any tape. Don't panic if you looked at your roll of tape and it's running low. We have some great options for you below, which can be delivered straight to your door.

String!
String is arguably one of the most important parts of string art. Given that string is in the name 'String' art it must be important. It is used in what I like to call the 'Stringing' stage (the stage of string art when you tie the string on.) I'd reconmend a rainbow of colours but don't worry if you only have a few, you'll be surprised how effective minimal colours are. If you are looking for a new colour or a whole set of string look at the links below to get yourself sorted.

Nails or pins!
These are the other fundamently important part of string art as it's the part that holds all the string in place. Having strong enough nails/pins is very important as you don't want your string art breaking (this is more important if you are planning on putting your artwork outside.) Another thing to take into account is the length of your nails/pins as you don't want them to be too long. If you don't have any that you think will be the right length or thickness for your wood take a quick look below at our suggestions.

Templates!
Of course this list would not be finished without mentioning what we specialise in. Templates are a must have for string art as without one there'd be string and nails everywhere. If you're like us you might find hand drawing your own design onto wood hard which is why we've worked hard to bring some amazing templates that are easy to follow for any size of wood.
